Session 12
Latin American migration to Scandinavia goes back some 40 years and has resulted in a Spanish-speaking diaspora surpassing seventy thousand inhabitants. Yet until recently, the Spanish-speaking communities in Sweden and the neighbouring countries had not been taken into account by the traditional institutions. SELAM is an independent music organisation in Stockholm that has for 14 years been successfully promoting and introducing African and Latin music to the Scandinavian
market and recently began deepening its focus on the vast Latin diaspora and Hispanic culture. Today, Selam has become the foremost representative within the Latin genres in Sweden, organising tours throughout Sweden and Scandinavia, expanding its cultural network to the American continent, and developing a festival that this summer attracted thousands of spectators to Stockholm.
The producer Osiel Ibáñez will share Selam's marketing methods and point out the key elements and strategies when creating collaborative opportunities based on the diaspora community.
