Session 10
The University of Deusto, University Foundation of Bages and the Tourism Laboratory of Diputació of Barcelona are the three independent agencies that have chosen Fira Mediterrània de Manresa to prepare a study on the economic impact of this arts market. Founded in 1998, Fira Mediterrània presents around 250 activities, 145 groups and companies, and attracts more than 1,000 professionals, over 4 days every year. This paper explains how music and the arts in general have a multiplying effect on the initial investment of governments and sponsors. Through the study, this session examines the impact on the cultural sector and the number of contracts deriving from the investment. It also quantifies the economic impact on the town hosting the fair, as well as on the surrounding region, with emphasis on the tourist sector, restaurants and bars and general trade.
