Session 8

It is no secret that cultural and arts funding has taken a major hit in these tough economic times, but that does not necessarily mean there is no money or support for the arts. Perhaps it is in how we frame creative business goals to local and regional authorities. From a funding point of view, development policies are perceived as more important than culture, and, hence are better funded. We need to shift the conversation to arts and culture as an engine of economic development (both directly and indirectly) instead of funding being perceived as a 'hand-out'. We will look at the issue from both the 'supply' side (arts entrepreneurs) and the 'demand' side (government policy goals), sharing ideas and success stories of how the two sides have come together to the benefit of both and the community.
