"I'm doing a radio series on Women in World Music," said Sandy Miranda of KPFA in Berkeley, California, "so I polled my colleagues in the WOMEX community, which also includes Folk Alliance members. As soon as I put out a message asking for people's favorite women in world music, the emails started pouring in. There is definitely a lot of energy and interest in this question. My categories are Historic Pioneers, Living Legends, Pop Divas, and Spirit Healers. After twenty years of doing world music radio shows, many of the submissions were new to me. It just shows that we all need to share our knowledge and keep our ears open!"
