Cello Trio

"A real treat to the ears and to the tormented hearts"
Diário de Notícias, Lisbon

The Cello has left its mark on Brazilian music in a very special way. Heitor Villa-Lobos, Brazil's most famous 20th century composer, played the cello and Brazilian cellists are prominent in orchestras and music academies around the world.
The Brazilian-German Cello Trio - two Brazilians living in Germany, one German living in Brazil - document the rich variety of works composed for the instrument by Brazilian composers. They have been performing together since 1985, when they met at the 100th birthday celebration of Heitor Villa-Lobos at the great hall of the UNESCO in Paris. At first coming together purely for fun, they began to receive offers to perform and have since appeared at major international festivals. With a repertoire ranging from fin-de-siècle popular salon music by Ernesto Nazareth, through works from Villa-Lobos to contemporary composers such as Ronaldo Miranda and Jamie M. Zenamon, The Cello Trio demonstrate how both indigenous folkloristic sounds and international classic traditions have blended to create a uniquely Brazilian music.
