WOMEX 12 THESSALONIKI * First Showcases Confirmed

(Photo: Kenan Zonnema) The WOMEX Jury's task is always a tough one and this year has been no exception. The 5 Showcase Samurai spent hundreds of hours listening to the 850 Showcase proposals received (a record-breaker!) and discussing which ones to select for WOMEX 12. Jury member Allie Silver (USA/Argentina) summarised the experience: 'I felt like I was at the world music Olympics debating Albanian polyphonic choirs at 4am trying to make the selection fit together while factoring in balance, musicianship and even risk.'

A huge thank you to all the Samurai for their enthusiasm and dedication to the task at hand.
