Rebel Up! started in 2007 as a global music DJ & VJ collective with members from Belgium and the Netherlands, specializing in many different local styles from around the world: ethnic, urban, folk and electronics, with a focus on rougher, unknown sounds. Our dj-sets come with interactive visuals by VJ M, for a total immersive experience of sounds and images from 'elsewhere'. The result of the clash between local and global forces, tradition and modernity. Sounds from the global underground! For over 10 years, we promote concert and party nights in Brussels, Amsterdam and other cities within Belgium and Netherlands.
Rebel Up! played a DJ Showcase at WOMEX 14 in Santiago de Compostela and made official remixes for Chouk Bwa Libete (Womex 15) and Throes and The Shine (Womex 16)
So far, Rebel Up! has performed on party nights and festivals in Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany, UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Morocco, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Canada, Brazil, Argentina and Peru. Most notable festivals that Rebel Up! has performed at so far: Womex14, Sfinks mixed (BE), Esperanzah (BE), Amsterdam Roots (NL), Recyclart Holidays (BE), Zomerparkfeest (NL), Gentse Feesten (BE), Pole Pole Beach (BE), Boom festival (PT), Le Guess Who (NL), International Film Festival Rotterdam (NL), Piec Smakov (PL), Zenith Fusion (BG), Goulash Disko (CR), Atlas Electronic (MA), Borgofuturo (IT), ... and soon yours?
In March 2018, Rebel Up Records was kickstarted, a new record label that puts focus on releasing music from contemporary global (electronic / traditional) artists from the diaspora within Belgium or abroad. Within 6 months, we already have 7 releases out from countries such as Ghana, Mexico, Iraq, Tunisia and the multicultural Brussels scene. Sounds from the global underground!
Rebel Up! is also on the airwaves, with their monthly radio show Rebel Up! Nightshop, broadcasted on Radio Campus Bruxelles and streamed on webradio Groovalizacion Radio. Also a monthly livestream session Rebel Up & Friends at Brussels Kiosk Radio with international guests.
Rebel Up also does an interactive audiovisual side project by the name of Rajasthan Live Cinema, which immerses the audience in a road trip through Rajasthan and its rich musical heritage, in live mixed visuals and sounds.
