ROSKILDE FESTIVAL 2001
ROSKILDE FESTIVAL 2001
12 June 2001
NEWSLETTER No. 16/01
APPROVAL OF ROSKILDE FESTIVAL'S
SAFETY AND CARE
In the month of May Roskilde Police granted Festival Roskilde permission to carry through Roskilde 2001 based on the extensive risk and care assessment.
The Risk and Care assessment describes the numerous measures established on this year's Roskilde Festival in order to take care of the behaviour of the audience. Politicians and authorities given the opportunity to go through the risk and care assessment express acknowledge and faith in Roskilde Festival's safety work.
Safety measures are being established for areas with a potential risk and the major part of Roskilde Festival's Risk and Care assessment is a description of safety measures already in force for many years on Roskilde
Festival. However also new attempts are among:
* Sectioning of the audience area right in front of Orange and Green Stages. The guards will secure that only a limited number of people will be admitted into the sections. The capacity varies from band to band. It is not
allowed to bring big items like flags, furniture, boxes, and loose bags in the front sections.
* Human 'sensors' and front fence guards will move about among the audience in front of the stages and focus on the welfare of the audience.
These workers are in direct contact with the Security Manager on the stage.
*
* During each concert the Security Manager is in direct contact with and makes dispositions for the safety personnel. The Security Manager is competent to require further assistance and to make dispositions for the carrying through of the concert. The Security Manager has a short line of command to Roskilde Festival's central Emergency Office.
* On the central Emergency Office you will find among others Roskilde Festival's Supreme Authority, co-ordinator for the festival's medical alert, and the police liaison officer. To secure maximum utilisation of ambulance and fire alert and police on the Festival site, all ordering of the above mentioned goes through the central Emergency Office.
*
* Both camping guards and front fence personnel have been trained prior to this year's festival. The length and content of the courses are decided by the participant's function during Roskilde Festival. This year
more personnel will be set in both in the camping area and by the stages.
*
* On all stages (except for the Camping Stage and Blue Stage) text screens are set up to bring practical or safety announcements to the audience.
*
* Crowd surfing and other potentially dangerous behaviour is not allowed on Roskilde Festival 2001.
Roskilde Festival is happy about the faith and support from the Danish politicians and authorities and hopes that the audience too will support the festival by showing up numerously on the Festival site Thursday 28 June.
The festival areas are open from Monday 25 June at 12.00 hrs to Monday 2 July at 14.00 hrs. It will be possible to pitch tents in a limited area from Saturday 23 June. Prior to this date and time there will be no admission to
the festival area, as the sanitary and safety measures of Roskilde Festival will not be ready until then.
