Rubem Dantas was born in Salvador of Bahia, Brazil, where after some years dedicated to the piano, he became interested in percussion mentored by his teacher, Vadinho do Gantois. Next to him, he became one of the most promising percussionists of the moment collaborating with groups like "Machina Naturale" o "Sangre y Raca" and participating in the main Brazilian festivals. In 1977 he comes to Madrid, after living and working for some years in Paris next to musicians like Eddie Louis, Christian Escude o Paco Serry. In Spain, he becomes a member with Pedro Ruy Blas, Jorge Pardo, Jesus Pardo, amd Alvaro Yebenes of the metical group Dolores. Dolores represented in the musical panorama of those times a revolution due to their way of understanding flamenco. During this stage, he also collaborates with Cameron de la Isla, in records like La leyenda del tiempo, Como el Agua, Calle Real o Vivire. Paco de Lucia asks him to participate in a new project, a quintet, later becoming a sextet and septet. It was then when Rubem introduced his percussion in flamenco, these rhythms were filled, by the sounds that his bongos, darbucas, tumbadores or cortinillas, for the first time in history. A musical project that with time became one of the most important worldwide, with which Rubem tours the main stages of the world for more than twenty five years. On one of his tours with Paco de Lucia in America, Rubem discovered the Peruvian Cajon (snare drum) and decided to include it, that same night ,in the concert, to interpret, Solo quiero caminar( I only want to walk). That decision created a following and marked flamenco forever, that adopted it as its own. The Cajon has become an essential instrument for any flamenco formation. In November of 2003 Chick Corea invited him to form part of his new band Chick Corea & touchstone. This formation recorded the record Rhumba Flamenco that was presented touring the stages of the world and obtaining great ovations from the public and the critics. In August of 2004 Rubem Dantas presents in Cadiz an avant-garde project: Rubem Dantas & Flamenco Big Band, the first formation of this kind, created in the world, in which , they don't take long in joining Carles Benavent, Carlos Carli, Jorge Pardo, Miguel angel Chastang and Rafael de Utrera, amongst others. During 2005 and 2006 and after recording the album The Ultimate Adventure, he embarks on a worldwide tour with Chick Corea & touchstone, presenting this new work. The Ultimate Adventure has obtained two awards in the last February's Grammies: Grammy to the best International Jazz Album and to the best musical arrangement for the theme "Three Ghouls". Rubem has walked his art in company of other musicians like Milton Nascimento, Enrique Morente, El Potito, Ketama, Paquito D'Rivera, Horacio Icasto,Gilberto Gil, Greuza o Pablo Milanes, amongst others.
