The story of La Chiva Gantiva starts with a group of percussionists playing together, wanting to feel closer to their homeland, Colombia, and its rich musical heritage. Adapting Colombian afro-cumbia folklore to their European urban lifestyle, the musicians of La Chiva Gantiva have created a unique musical style and on-scene energy, that has opened their path to many big festivals throughout Europe. Since 2005, La Chiva Gantiva has played Esperanzah!, Couleur Café and Sfinks Mundial in Belgium, Karneval der Kulturen and Fest Fusion in Germany, Colores Latinos Festival in France, Colombiage Festival in the UK, and many more. With every concert and cultural exchange, the group develops its personal fusion of afro colombian rhythms with influences of latin music (Fania all stars, Irakere), afro-beat (Fela Kuti, Tony Allen), funk (James Brown) and rock (Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine).
With the recording of the EP “Apretao” (2009) and the upcoming release of the full album “Pelao” Produced by Richard Blair, (a British producer living in Colombia, who worked with Peter Gabriel and the Colombian diva Toto La Momposina. ), La Chiva Gantiva continues to grow and to create a compelling and inspiring musical universe.
