Among the pioneers of the Finnish contemporary folk music movement, Kristiina Ilmonen (born 1966) is a musician, composer and teacher, playing ethnic woodwinds and percussion in folk ensembles and in various solo and collective productions. She is a longtime teacher at the Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department, which she was heading 1998-2004. She is currently preparing her Doctor of Music degree in the Arts Programme as well as working actively as a musician.
Fringe showcase concert on Saturday!
Kristiina will perform a showcase during Womex 2011 with her new band Sysihai on Saturday 29th at the Global CPH venue at 19.15. Admission is free! You can arrive to the club with a free shuttle bus from Forum Copenhagen, or take a walk of 20 minutes to get there. All Womex delegates will be offered a free warm meal on arrival. There is also a free shuttle bus from Global CPH to DR Koncerthuset. The address for Global CPH is Norre Alle 7, 2200 Copenhagen N. There are also eight more acts from Nordic countries on the same venue during Womex.

Kristiina Ilmonen Sysihai
Kristiina Ilmonen specializes in rare ethnic woodwind instruments such as Northern flutes, whistles and horns and the ancient Finnish reed instruments liru and mänkeri. In Sysihai, Kristiina teams up with two gentlemen and their electronics to create urban folk, sometimes delicate and minimalistic, sometimes rough, wild and passionate.
