A Senegalese songer-songwriter who leaps instantly into the master class, N’diaye offers material in Wolof that speaks around the globe. Stripped-down, there ‘s plenty to keep this rooted in West Africa (percussion, kora), but it’s also very modern, with the electric guitar and bass on the title track building a dark mood, for example, or the mere fact that it’s guitar-based. At time N’Diaye can unleashan unearthly griot wail, just to remind that he’s worthy of being considered one of his country’s great singers, but mostly he let’s the songs speaks for themselves - which they do, very eloquently, as on “ Casa Di Mansa ”, where voice and percussion work together, until balafon and sax lighten the mood, or on the capella “ N’Guelaw ”. A superb disc from someone who deserves fame.
