Siri Karlsson is a Swedish duo that consists of Maria Arnqvist on saxophone, synthesizers and vocals, and Cecilia Österholm on key fiddles, synthesizers and vocals. Siri Karlsson works cross-boundary and creates an unorthodox and highly personal hybrid psychedelic rock, folk music, avant garde, punk – creating new sounds yet reminiscent of the tales and mysticism of Scandinavia. Siri Karlsson has released five highly acclaimed albums to date and an EP, Mellan Träden (2008), Gran Fuego (2011), The Lost Colony (2015), Shake Shake Love (2017) , EP Ouaga Sessions - a colab with Burkina Faso artist Solo Dja Kabaco (2018) and upcoming Horror Vacui (2019), the five latest in collaboration with producer Jari Haapalainen. Siri Karlsson has toured the world with reoccurring collaborations with artists in West Africa. In 2018 Siri Karlsson wrote a commissioned piece the Swedish Radio's electronic festival P2 Art’s Birthday Party. Their music has been heard in films and TV-shows, they have collaborated with visual artists such as Éva Mag and Hong Kai Wai, and are constantly searching for new expressions. In May 2019 they premiered a collaboration with composer Mikael Karlsson (NYC) - Trespassing at Orionteatern in Stockholm - Trespassing - a scenic concert inspired by a forest rave. The 90 minute piece constructs a world of prismatic rhythms, raw synths, earthly improvisations, ecstatic choirs, psychedelic escapes, baroque ritornellos, ragged blues and deep incantations and ritual. It’s a summons to our base instincts, a call to senseless dance, and a banshee shriek to break the monotony of modern life.
