25 years on the path of dhrupad
from 1978 to 1980, Yvan settled in Benares ( India) to
begin his apprenticeship with Sri Ritwick Sanyal, vocal
teacher at the university
In 1981, after having met his masters ( Ustad Zia
Fariduddin Dagar , Singer and his elder brother, late
Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar,expert of Rudra vina) that
he join them to follow their education at the dhrupad
centre in Bhopal until 1986 .
Between 1987 and 1990 he entered into a more
practical phase of learning by giving his first concert, in
India and in Europe, solo and duet ( accompagning Zia
Fariduddin Dagar on stage)
He obtain his first official post at the Rotterdam
conservatory and Amsterdam Music Schools
which he held for three years inviting his masters each
year for the exams sessions.
Between 1990 and 1995, after the death of Ustad Zia
Mohiuddin Dagar, he set off again in Delhi and Bhopal
( close to Zia Fariduddin Dagar) acquiring little by little
the professional level, one of the rare westerners to
have achieved it .
Very soon, his was drawn to the finesse and rigour of
his masters teaching skills. He assisted them regularly
in their daily teaching and in training workshop in India
and in Europe, Thus finding and indispensable
complement to singing on stage and the development
of deep knowledge of dhrupad. More other is preparing
an in depth study based on his personal experience on
the most judicious method of learning and playing this
music
