The Baladi Blues Ensemble deliver urban Egyptian dance music at its very best!
Their music reflects the sophisticated and fast-paced, urban lifestyle of 1950’s Cairo – all offered with a charming and enigmatic stage presence.
The group is led by drummer Guy Schalom who was described as « one of the most interesting and versatile percussionists working in the UK today » (fROOTS). In the Baladi Blues Ensemble, he unites three of Egypt’s most renowned master musicians: saxophonist Ahmed El Saidi, quarter-tone accordionist Sheik Taha and master percussionist Hassan Reevis. The band is joined by frame drum wizard Adam Warne on percussion.
The band has released three CDs to date. Their debut, Baladi Blues, was described by fROOTS magazine as “Outstanding, fresh and compelling as well as technically superb”.
