company description

South African Music Exports is the initiative to form a music industry export council in South Africa. It hosts membership based organisations representing the interests of musicians, composers, publishers, promoters and music managers.

SAMEX vision is closely aligned to MOSHITO while the Association's primary objective is to represent South African Music Exporters in all aspects of the music industry and to promote South African music trade abroad.

The Association's secondary objectives are as follows:

• To create and make available a database of South African music exporters

• To act as a distributor of information related to South African music exports

• To promote mutual understanding and co-operation among members and other stakeholders at all levels of the music industry

• To develop and promote professionalism and fair trade amongst members

The Association's tertiary objective is to structure and formalise partnerships with related bodies nationally and internationally.

Membership of the Association is open to all registered collective membership based institutions and organisations operating in the music industry; all other institutions interested in the purposes of the Association, and upon approval of their written application for membership by the Board.

Thus far SAMEX has successfully organised broad based industry participation at Midem in 2005/2006, participation at Popkomm 2005/2006, Womex 2005/2006, held exploratory talks with export councils from Sweden, Finland, France, Netherlands and sent fact finding missions to Porto Musicale in Brazil and the Ziff Festival in Tanzania.
