STIMMEN Festival / Burghof Loerrach GmbH

Stimmen is an international festival dedicated to vocal music and singers from all over the world.
Situated in Lörrach, in the heart of europe, in the 3-country-area (Germany, Switzerland, France) around Bale, it was founded in 1994 and is running it´s 19th edition between july 11 and august 5, 2012.

Stimmen celebrates the art of singing in all styles and cultures, linking old vocal traditions like yodeling through the classical european choral singing to contemporary worldmusic and experimental performances. It takes place in different indoor and outdoor venues, in churches and old abbeys, in the old roman theatre of Augusta Raurica in Switzerland as well as on the central market square in Loerrach, making the whole city swinging in polyrythmical tunes. It´s homebase is the performing arts center and the "House of Stimmen" - Burghof Lörrach.

After the participation of artists like Leonard Cohen, Bobby McFerrin, Patti Snith, Paolo Conte, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison, the Tallis Scholars, the Hilliard Ensemble, Helmut Rilling and his famous Bach-choir "Gächinger Kantorei", after presenting an extraordinary choice of vocal artists from all over the world like Dimi Mint Abba (Mauretanie), Alim Qasimov (Aserbeidschan) Sabri Brothers (Pakistan), Soeur Marie Keyrouz (Libanon), Susana Baca (Peru), Les Mystères des Voix Bulgares (Bulgaria), Eleftheria Arvanitaki (Greece), Huun Huur Tu (Tuva) and many others in the last years, we keep creating within this festival an athmosphere of living, cultural exchange.
Part of the programm are the worhshop-series "Stimmen Werkstatt" (Voicelab), where participants can experience different vocal techniques and styles, teached by extraordinary singers and vocal teachers.
