Grandmaster

Leroy Young, The Grandmaster, is Belize’s finest dub-poet. Born in Belize City, Central America on the 7th of August 1967, he was the youngest son from a family of seven, three brothers, three sisters. Growing up in one of Belize’s most notorious, dreaded and feared neighborhoods (Majestic Alley), he was exposed to real ghetto life. After high school he joined Belize’s pioneering Rap group Fresh Breeze Krew with Kenny Morgan and his brother Turbo. He was a regular feature on Channel 7, performing poems after the local news, after which he was approached by the Image Factory, in Belize City, with an offer that brought forth two poetry books “Made in Pink’s Alley” and “Generation X”. Now with his recent release, Just Like That, he details his view of the injustices and harshness of life he understands so well.
