This band is from Pernambuco and they had an outstanding success following manguebeat movement, in the 90's, as they played with the musician and composer Chico Science. With him, Nacao Zumbi recorded 2 albums "Da Lama ao Caos" (94) and "Afrociberdelia" (96), that brought them fame in Brazil. Some of their biggest hits are "Rios, Pontes e Overdrives", "A Cidade", "Da Lama ao Caos", "Maco", "Corpo de Lama" and their own version of "Maracatu Atomico", from Jorge Mautner grand Nelson Jacobina, great hit in the Gilberto Gil's voice, in the 70's.
After Science died in a car accident in 1997, the others continued his work, releasing right after in 1998 a double album "CSNZ" (still with the name of their ex-lider), with brand new tracks in one CD and remixes in the other.
In 2000 the band recorded "Radio S.AMB.A" (YBrazil?), that had a big hit with "Quando a Mare Encher" and mostly showed their hability to survive without Science. Jorge Du Peixe took over the vocal, followed by the other partners: Lucio Maia (guitar), Alexandre Djengue (bass), Toca Ogam (percussion), Gilmar Bolla 8 (percussion) e Pupilo (drums). In 2002, the band signs with Trama editor company and releases their homonymous album "Nacao Zumbi. With powerful hits like "Meu Maracatu Pesa Uma Tonelada", in this album they manage to consolidate themselves as one of the greatest independent Brazilian bands, still playing.

Produced by the band it self and Scott Hard (who worked with De La Soul), in 2005, Nacao Zumbi comes back and releases their 6th album "Futura". This album flirts with regional music, use some electronic experiments and textures, uses maracatu drums and allow to try out new things. It has 12 tracks and counts with Mauricio Takara (Hurtmold) and Fernando Catatau (Cidadao Instigado) as guests.
