Sheva

1997, a small oasis-commune somewhere in the Galilee mountains. Seven ('Sheva') jewish, muslim and christian musicians decide to put a band together. Their music stemns from the same traditions: hebrew, arabic and tribal elements take shape in a spot where the old trade-routes of Africa, Europe and Asia used to meet. Where once the caravans drew water and gathered fruit in order to provision for their journey along the silk-road, a new trysting-place came into being where cultures and traditions meet and enrich each other.

Nowadays, Sheva has become one of the foremost groups in Israël, and their message of unity, tolerance and encounter appeals to many young people. Theirs are among the best-selling world-music CD's in the land.Their concerts turn into veritable happenings where thousands of afficionado's create a modern flower-power atmosphere with meditation, prayer and festivity blending nicely. Singing, poetry, universal mysticism and worldwide tribal aesthetics are the binding agent at Sheva-concerts. The band also appears at the countless concerts and festivals set up to promote peace and co-existence in Israël between jews and arabs, such as the Shantipi Tribal Festival where 25,000 contemporary people meet annualy.
