biography

James Burke has been with City Parks Foundation since 2001 and was named Director of Arts & Cultural Programs in 2007.

CPF/SummerStage produces and presents 1,200 free programs each year, making it one of the largest arts organizations in the New York City. Its programs include the renowned SummerStage festival, the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, CityParks Kids and puppet performances both at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater in Central Park and through the travelling CityParks PuppetMobile.

Before joining City Parks Foundation, James was the National Sales Director for Paradigm Associated Labels, a consortium of four independent record companies, and supervised export sales for Caroline Distribution, a worldwide music distribution company.

James has been a singer/songwriter since his teens. He has been a member of several NYC music projects and has recorded several albums, as bassist/singer for the alt-rock outfits The Royal Wylds and Driver X (both on Reel to Reel Records) and as co- conspirator/songwriter in the post-punk band Idle (Big Deal Records). His most current project is {cq} - Morse code for “seek you” – an indie-pop project that recently completed a twelve-song cycle of acoustic guitar-based tunes entitled Signals of Distress (and Unending Joy).
