Mozambique is the longest country in Africa, and has
a correspondingly wide range of cultures and
music. The area below the Zambezi River is
generally referred to as 'Southern Mozambique'.
There are beautiful mbiras on this disc by the Sena
and Ndau peoples, then there are the Shagaan
peoples of the south with great singing, drumming
and xylophones. And two peoples who escaped
Nguni conquest: the Chopi, featured here with three
legendary timbila maestros, small girls playing
ocarinas as in a dream, and the Gitonga with their
drums and 'singing horns'. Sit back and be amazed.
