Pietra Montecorvino made her starring debut with Renzo Arbore and Roberto Benigni in the film "F.F.S.S", in which she interpreted the famous song "SUD (1983).
In 1985 she starred again in "LA CIORTA DI FELICIELLO", directed by Mario Franco.
In 1986 she appeared in the stage musical ACQUA ACQUA FOCO FOCO" by Eugenio Bennato. The show was presented at the Venice Carnival and toured internationally, playing in France and Argentina.
In the same year she took leading 1988 found her again with a leading role, in the film "CAVALLI SI NASCE" directed by Sergio Staino .
She appeared in another Eugenio Bennato musical, " A SUD DI MOZART".
Her own first album was released in 1991, entitled "SEGNORITA", written for her by the Bennato brothers, Edoardo and Eugenio. Specially tailored for her, the disc was good enough to gain the attention of the organisers of the Tenco Prize, who invited her to take part in the "Rassegna della canzone d'autrice" in Verona in 1991.
On this occasion her extraordinary talents won plaudits from both public and critics, who considered her one of the triumphs of the event, along with Mercedes Sosa e Ute Lemper.
Pietra was invited to participate in the gala evening of the Tenco Prize 1991, where she was awarded the "Best Performer of the Year" award. Taking the stage, she sang a selection of tracks from the album "Segnorita", and once again held the audience with her magnetic, instinctual presence.
She took part in the 1992 FESTIVAL DI SANREMO, duetting with Peppino di Capri, in a rendition of "FAVOLA BLUES".

She released her second album in 1993, "VOCE DI PIETRA" by various authors. Pub. RTI.
In 1995 she teamed up with PEPPE BARRA, taking the lead role in the theatre piece "LA CANTATA DEI PASTORI", directed by Peppe Barra.
1996 found her involved in the original production of "MALAMUSIK", directed by Eugenio Bennato, with whom Pietra delved into the contemporary Neapolitan music of the backstreets, the Malamusik of our times.
In 1998 she recorded a duet with Roberto Murolo: Domenico Modugno's song "Resta cu mme".
In 1999 she staged her first show, conceived and directed entirely by herself: "Neapolitan Tango".
2002 saw the completion of the record Napoli Mediterranea, from an idea by Eugenio Bennato. The disc was published in France, Spain, Britain, Germany etc, and consolidated Pietra's reputation, with European tours in 2003-2004. In fact, she was selected for the Essen Womex (28 October 2004) and the Tenco Prize (29 October 2004). In 2OO8 she interpreted the musical Festa di Piedigrotta of Raffaele Viviani and directe by Nello Mascia and musically arranged by Eugenio Bennato.
Pietra also partecipated, in the same year 2008 ,at the Sanremo's Festival with the song Grande Sud. She is just finished acting in a movie directed by John Turturro,a similar project realised by Wenders for Buena Vista Social Club in Havana. The movie will have a real trama regarding a trip from the old popular song of the Vomero through the dub rythm of Almanegretta passing by the sax of James Senese and the deep soul voice of Pietra Montecorvino.

The connecting line between them and today is the beatiful voice of Pietra, that grows from emotion and contradiction belonging at Neaple's history. The struments that accompany are the guitar and the south drummer, the enchanting voices of the last generation of immigrates make the new reality of nowdays music. Pietra challenges the listener with her particular way of singing but with real author prevously had challenged the italian public with an innovative and particular way comparing to what was fashionable at those days.
