‘Inn of love’ originated when Melike Tarhan, a Belgian singer with Turkish roots, attended a stage
performance of John Snauwaert with his band, playing Turkish traditionals, arranged in a fresh way. Melike was
intrigued, artistic sparks were buzzing and it didn’t take long for a new musical project to arise. The quartet
plays Turkish traditionals but also new compositions.
A thread of ‘love’ is running through this musical weaving work of ethnic and modern Western influences.
Sometimes the thread is running straight, uncomplicated, through the simple poetry of the mundane,
sometimes the thread is writhing in sweet pain from the void of a never regained love. And then there are the
songs containing a thread that is spiraling up: in these mystic sufi songs one can hear the love for the world,
the love of the soul who longs to be one with the divine. The ego diminishes and restricts. Love opens and
broadens.
