The Danish Folk Council (FFS) is an independent institution whose superior object is to promote understanding and promote opportunities for development of Danish roots music, nationally as well as internationally. Roots music meaning the entire range of musical expressions within the roots label: traditional and contemporary Danish folk music, folk from other countries, blues, country, world and every other existing (or arising) form of fusion within and between these genres.

The Danish Folk Council functions as a representation and service agency within the folk music area, and, furthermore, the council works to encourage and support cooperation between the three nationwide folk music organizations in Denmark: the Circle of Danish Folk Music Houses (FMHR), the Danish Folk Music Association (FMS) and the Danish Folk Dancers' Association of Dance Musicians (DFS).

The Danish Folk Council supports Danish roots music and related genres through funds from the music law (part of the official Danish Finance Act - the Budget).

The Danish Folk Council cooperates, among others, with the Danish Rock Council (ROSA), the Association of Professional Composers and Songwriters (DJBFA), World Music Denmark (WMD) and the Secretariat for Contemporary Music (SNYK).
