Carlos is from Viña del Mar, Chile. Musical director of the South American ensemble Caliche based in Birmingham, England.(www.calichemusic.com)
He was a student of opera at the Conservatoire in Viña del Mar, Chile, until he was arrested for his involvement in student politics in the aftermath of the Pinochet coup. While in prison he met many leading musicians and gained practical knowledge of Andean instruments. When he came to England he resumed his musical activities with the CBSO Chorus and founded Caliche. He advises the group on curricular matters. He plays charango, guitar, ocarinas and other instruments.

In 1997 he acted as a musical advisor to Vanessa Redgrave at the Taormina and Napoli festivals in Italy in the production of 'Il pianeta senza visto' (The Planet Without a Visa), a collaboration with Caliche. Carlos collaborated with Maggie Hamilton in the recording of the South American tracks of the "Joining Hands' albums produced by Counterpoint, a world music project sponsored by Christian Aid.

During 1998-00 he was the leader of the Andean music project at Birmingham Conservatoire, and then involved in an early/world music project hosted by the Sirinu ensemble.

Caliche are currently working on performances of Misa Criolla,a series of education workshops and a main Family Concert organised by Birmingham Town Hall, regular school visits and a new album to be released in mid 2008.
