SKINS & KEYS

'Their mastery make them completely subservient to the higher goal: working together to achieve something that each individual on itself could not reach.'

The latest project within Music World Series has a very unusual line-up of three percussionists and a pianist.
If you add to this that these gentlemen hang as lovers on each other's musical lips, it seems that the show could end up as a hermetically sealed-together something on stage, but nothing is less true. Rather than shut out, the public is drawn into the spontaneous playfulness of the interaction between the adventurers. For all four musicians are outside their comfort zone in Skins & Keys. If three percussionists playing together, the sound is very easily clutterd with competing rumbles and rolls all over the place. Nils Fischer, Afra Mussawisade and Niti Ranjan Biswas, however, create constantly space for one another and let their audience breathe so that music can be enjoyed all the way.
For pianist Ramón Valle it is maybe the greatest challenge, because he bears the full burden of both the melodic and the harmonic aspect of collaboration. His approach is that of a watercolorist: with quick, confident strokes, he moods and down moods without becoming bogged down in detail fussing.
Flaunt and show off virtuosity has been a passed station for these musicians a long time ago - if it ever was. Their mastery make them completely subservient to the higher goal: working together to achieve something that each individual on itself could not reach. During the first set, the efforts which this mission requires were slightly noticiable, after the break, the music seemed to transcend all earthly drudgery.
