Based in São Paulo, the r e v i s t a
do samba was formed in 1999 and
since then, the trio, with Letícia
Coura, Beto Bianchi and Vitor da
Trindade, is successfully performing
around Brazil and most recently,
abroad.
The project, which rose from
repertoire research, extended itself to
the origins of samba and the
perception that sambas written long
ago are still fresh in mind of so many
people in Brazil.
The revista do samba brings up the
moment that samba became the
main cultural expression of Brazilian
people. Based on this idea the trio
presents songs of the greatest
composers of Brazil, like Adoniran
Barbosa, Geraldo Pereira, Paulo
Vanzolini, Ataulfo Alves, Wilson
Batista, Jadir Ambrósio, Lupicínio
Rodrigues, Noel Rosa, Cartola,
Monsueto, Dorival Caymmi, among
many others. The songs are part of
each Brazilian personal history,
sambas that are somehow familiar
to every soul in Brazil. The musicians
prepare the first cd of the group,
presenting beautiful old songs.
Some of them, though they deserved,
were never a national success.

At the performances, the trio
communicates with humor, to each
other and with the audience. The
lyrics are, in many cases, funny and
happy, what is easily perceived by
anyone regardless nationality. The
melodies are light and easy to learn.
The presented sambas are part of
the cultural memory of the great
majority of Brazilians. Letícia Coura
is also an actress, Beto Bianchi is a
composer and researcher, and Vitor
da Trindade is a composer and
expert on Afro-Brazilian culture.
