Critically acclaimed New York band Pistolera has toured its accordion-driven dance songs in six different countries since it's debut in 2005. Fans around the world are dancing cumbias to the group's socially conscious songs--en espanol--about immigrants' rights, war, racism, feminism, and life on the border. Pistolera's third studio album, El Desierto y La Ciudad, takes listeners on a journey between two worlds: the peaceful, spacious deserts of the west and the bustling, urban life of New York City. With an "A" side and a "B" side, the album as a whole presents a rich sonic palette that encompasses rock, latin, dance, and balladic styles, with evocative lyrics and musical interludes that capture the spirit of two very different landscapes. El Desierto y La Ciudad acts as the soundtrack for the life of so many Americans living in, and sometimes between, two cultures. The album is due out this year.
