Combining rhythms of Brazilian tradition with Latin and African music, and mixing influences from over the world, Renato Picchi is a percussionist devoted to create his own vision, presenting innovative solo/band performances with an unique musical personality.
He began as a disciple of the great Master Dinho Gonçalves (Brazil) with whom he studied for nine years being a member of Woiekê group in performances and instructional vídeos. From the last 20 years, Renato Picchi has been involved with the most influential Brazilian artists focused in World Music and holistic lifestyle, helping people to improve their full potential through music in performances and workshops such as Skol Beats, Sambadrome 2001, Yoga pela Paz 2007, Ana Rita Simonka etc.
Among his works we can mention “Afrotechnodrums” - live performance joining Drums and Techno, “Organic Percussion” – free improvisation, “Inner Pulse” – body percussion workshop, and so many others.
Exploring the boundaries between cultures and styles, he claims that percussion is an universal language, inspired by the Afro-Brazilian beliefs that assert that “the drums know the language of the spirits”. Eclectic and charismatic, as he defines himself "I feel as an experimental percussionist who faces the challenge to create new fusions keeping the feet rooted in the past".
Renato Picchi is deeply involved with his first álbum solo that is part of a set of four CDs named “DevaDrums”, that means “the drums of the gods” and aims to be a huge, syncretic, energetic fusion of rhythmic traditions from the 5 continents, evidently, recreated by Brazilian swing.
