A Gipsy from Fado, a Voice from the World
When one thinks of fado, many are the names that come up, but few will have the charismatic power and the soul of Cidalia Moreira, "the gipsy fado singer", as she is often referenced.
Cidalia has a long career that started on the stages of the Variety theater shows and that after Portugal's revolution of 1974 gave voice to the social concerns that were also being manifested
through songs. She lent her voice and her soul to classics like "Falta Aqui uma Ceifeira", "Trabalho Amigo" or "Os Rios Correm Para o Mar", pieces of the so-called fado song, thought to conquer the stages she was singing them on.
But the Frederico Valerio fado, "O Meu Primeiro Amor", that people in Portugal remember with a different title, "20 Anos", projected her further and gave a true expression to the word "saudade". The very same "saudade" and portuguese feeling that can't be properly translated, got her <pplause on an international level with presentations in Germany, France, Spain, the United States or South Africa.
Cidalia represents fado from another era. Precisely the one that keeps the identity of this culture the world learned to applaude.
