The city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, an industrial city of 4 million people, located in northern Mexico, will host the second edition of the Universal Forum of Cultures from September 20 through December 9, 2007.
The first edition occurred in Barcelona in 2004. During 80 days, the Forum Monterrey’s diverse activities in Fundidora Park, a former steelworks factory, will encourage dialogue and intercultural exchange intraregionally and internationally.
The Forum is supported by UNESCO and comprises the following themes: Culture, Knowledge, Conscience and Communication.
The Monterrey Forum is divided into three primary areas: Dialogues, Exhibits, and Performances, and twelve topic areas including: cities and populations, human rights, health and quality of life, cultural policies, and environment, human resources and sustainable development, among others.
Because the Forum will occur in a country shaped and influenced by the world’s largest socio-cultural laboratory, the 1,000 mile border that Mexico shares with the United States, the Monterrey Forum will emphasize Migration and Identity, a pressing topic not only in the Americas but also worldwide.
