WHAT IS VIA LACTEA ABOUT…

Via Lactea is an agency that wants to promote "alternative world music", which says everything and then again nothing... To be concrete, we are occupied with the following things:

We are a booking agent for indie world music in Belgium. World music to us is just about artists who make a musical mix of different styles and disciplines in a festive way. Where they come from doesn't make a difference for us. Most of our bands are coming from France and Spain, but also from the former Eastern European Countries or Latin America. We also find it important that these artists have an explicit social vision and opinion.

We are a small management agency for some world music artists. At the moment, Via Lactea is doing the entire management of Amparo Sanchez and Amparanoia, one of Spain's most famous worldmusic artists. And we are also managing the French-Belgian collective Orchestre International du Vetex.

Via Lactea also runs its own label, Via Lactea Records. This small label has its own small philosophy: interesting artists make fascinating music. Via Lactea Records released albums from Amparanoia, Orchestre International du Vetex, la Troba Kung-Fu and LaXuLa.

Via Lactea runs its office from the French-Belgian border-city Tournai. A very small historic UNESCO-classified city. From this unique location, Via Lactea also participates in several crossing border cultural projects such as PassPartout. We are promoting French bands such as MAP, LeOparleur,… in Belgium and vice versa. We also organise several workshops and masterclasses.
