15 instrumental dance tunes from the North of Sweden with nykelharpa, moraharpa, fiddle and guitar.

Ahlberg, Ek & Roswall offers a swinging and virtuosic interplay that invites both listening and dancing. The repertoire is based on tradtional Swedish tunes, including slängpolskas from Skåne, triplet-based polskas from Medelpad, as well as their own compositions.

It was an afternoon in November, and we were sat on the top floor of Niklas’ house playing a polska. Outside the window the first snow fell slowly through the air and the tune we were playing gained a sudden wintry temperament, icy semiquavers that somehow sounded familiar to us. It was in this way that the tune Vintern, the Winter, gained its form, and it was the start of our work on this album, our first together.
We travelled to each other’s homes throughout the entire winter, to search for tunes, play and arrange music. It was cold and snowy and right in the middle of things Dagmar the storm made its grand entrance and almost blew us away. But there were also many fine days where we were able to enjoy our afternoon coffee in the sunshine out on the veranda.

The majority of tunes are from our local areas in Medelpad and Skåne, tunes that we have learnt from older musicians, colleagues, notated music collections or recordings, and which we have then made our own. A few of our compositions have crept in too.

We recorded the album during a few cold days in January with Gustav Hylén in Revsund, and this is the result, Vintern. A record where the traditions from south and north Sweden meet, arranged in a contemporary style for fiddle, guitar and nyckelharpa. - We hope you like it!
