Two vital new names in Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), Estrela Leminksi and Téo Ruiz have been making music together since 2001. eir album, São Sons (2011) marks the high point of a career that has included collaborations with projects like Coletânea Re-Trato – a compilation of songs by the group Los Hermanos organized by the website Musicoteca – as well as the collection Reversos, organized by Nego Dito Magazine, where they are contribute four songs, including partnerships with Tatá Aeroplano and iago Galego.
In the year of its release, São Sons, was selected to the prestigious Prêmio de Música Brasileira 2011(Brazilian Music Awards 2011) and listed in best-of lists, including that of Revista Manuscrita (Embrulhador). e album garnered notice in the Brazilian and international press and their tour supporting the album took them not only across their home country but also to festivals in Spain and Argentina.
Having decided to chronicle the success of their tour, they recorded and released the DVD of São Sons, which included previously unreleased material and gave the audience a chance to experience the songs in their live form and accompanied by video projections. Always careful to compliment their musical work – rather than distract from it – Leminski and Ruiz were careful in selecting and recording the multimedia component of the show, envisioning it as a way of bringing the audience closer to the performers and their message.
What sets these two young musicians apart from so many of their peers is their commitment to their audience. With every composition, they aim to connect with their listeners, to create empathy. In order to achieve this artistic goal, they draw from their vast repertory of musical, textual, and poetical elements that fit the essence of each song they create.
