The main goal of FIMS is to generate and establish business for music from the south of Brazil. This area is still not well known outside the country, despite the quality and originality of its production that includes a great variety of regional, contemporary and world music styles. This event intend to offer, thus, a space where many different agents get together willing to expand their network and music business. The first edition was held in Curitiba, capital of Paraná state, fin June 2016, in a multimedia space called “Portão Cultural”. Curitiba is known for its modern urban style and in the last years has been responsible for many artists and new tendencies in Brazilian music, and these are one of the reasons it was chosen to host the first edition of this convention.
Speeches, debates, speed meetings and 16 showcases took place in these four days. The showcases were spread in the programme in a way all participants could appreciate all performances. And also, the showcases were divided according to the regions: the first day artists from Rio Grande do Sul State (4), the second from Santa Catarina State (4), the third from Paraná State, the countryside (4) and the last day groups and artists from Curitiba (4). All activities were offered to national and international agents, besides the artists. The opportunity for the speed meetings were opened for the artists and also producers and labels of the whole country in an effort to optimize the opportunity to establish business such as shows, concerts, synchronizations and all kinds of different projects.
We are preparing the next edition which will happen in 2018. As part of the integration goal, this music convention will be itinerant through the three states of the south of Brazil.
