Katrin Wilke works as an independent radio and print journalist for 10 years in Berlin (e.g. for Radio Multikulti or the magazine "Blue Rhythm"). During her studies of Spanish and Latinamerican Philology and by spending time in the Hispanic regions, she discovered the stimulating variety of Latin music and the opportunity to bring those over to her home country. Starting with Flamenco Jazz, she expanded her journalism to various styles, from traditional to modern, urban Hispano-Latin sounds.

WOMEX-conference with Iván Benavides

Actually she's the host of two radio shows on the new internet radio muticult2.0 (www.multicult20.de). She works for the biggest german worldmusic festival TFF (www.tff-rudolstadt.de) as musicians scout and stage presenter. In 2009 she was a consultant for SOUNDS FROM SPAIN at WOMEX for communication and press.

Katrin Wilke ist Wahl-Berlinerin, Gelegenheits-Barcelonesa und Habanera Postiza.Seit Mitte der Neunziger ist sie Musik-Journalistin für Radio und Print (unter anderem für Radio MultiKulti & WDR Funkhaus Europa, Deutschlandradio Kultur & Deutschlandfunk, Blue Rhythm & taz).Als DJ lässt sie seit 5-6 Jahren ihre gefischten Perlen hier und da über den Dancefloor rollen (z.B. als Gästin bei der Manu-Chao-Record-Release in Paris oder bei den Berliner Latino-DJs von La Regla, in der Werkstatt der Kulturen, der fabrik Potsdam, oder im MoKATO.Ihre bevorzugten musikalischen Tauchgründe liegen überall dort, wo Spanisch oder Portugiesisch gesprochen und gefühlt wird, sind geografisch und kulturell also immer schlechter einzugrenzen. Und das ist gut so... Auf den Teller kommt alles, was groovt und Latin-Biss hat: Afrokubanisches & -brasilianisches, Latin-Rock & -Ska, HipHop & Elektro-Latino, leichtfüßige Flamenco-Sounds & Gypsie-Rumba sowie deren Vibes von Mutter Afrika.Kaíta aka Katrin Wilke, 'made in GDR' (*1965 Erfurt) - verschlug es mit 20 von Thüringen in die Ost-Capitale. Eine Single von AMIGA mit zwei Steve-Wonder-Songs war die allererste Schallplatte, die Kaíta als Kind von ihrem eigenen Taschengeld und eher zufällig ergattert hatte. 'Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand, with an equal opportunity, for all to sing, dance and clap their hands...' heißt es da in 'Sir Duke', doch sollten diese Zeilen erst später Bedeutung bekommen. Zunächst einmal war es der Groove dieses Stücks, der Kaíta frühzeitig Lust machte auf mehr, vor allem auf dancefloor-tauglichen, funky Jazz und auf Latin-Sounds. Deren Spur verfolgt sie weiter von der Peripherie ihres Hispanistik- und Lateinamerikanistik-Studiums aus sowie beim Reisen. Mitte der Neunziger kehrt sie von einem längeren Spanienaufenthalt heim - den Koffer und den Kopf voller neuer musikalischen Flausen und Entdeckungen, insbesondere schwergewichtigem Flamenco und Flamenco-Jazz. Von der "letzten vorgelagerten Insel Lateinamerikas" zurück in Deutschland bekommt sie - außer Entzugserscheinungen - das Gefühl, dass hierzulande die iberische und allgemein die Latino-Kultur nur mit ihren stereotypistischen Topics von sich reden machen. Das gibt ihr den letzten Kick, sich aus musikjournalistischer Perspektive auf die weniger ausgelatschten Pfade und in die unbekannteren Niederungen der iberischen und Latino-Musikkultur zu begeben und somit nicht mehr nur von der Konsumentenfront aus der Musik zu frönen.
