company description
Stichting Window to Europe was established in 1989. According to the vision of it's driving force Maxim Chapochnikov, the organization started with promotion of culture of the former Soviet Union and organization of international exchange programs in the fields of music and art. Many projects of the last 20 years were dedicated to dissemination of traditional musical culture of the various peoples of the former Soviet Union and Central Asia.
So, WTE did some of the very first shows of Huun Huur Tu, the stars of throat-singing from Tuva. Other artists, who participated in WTE's programs include Chirgilchin, Sainkho Namchilak, Altai Hangai, Raushan Orazbaeva, Almas Almatov, Bolot Bairyshev, Edil Khussainov, Urkash Mametaliev, Nohon Shumarov, OMFO and many others. We avoid to show the music and culture as dusty museum objects. At the same time we give priority to the understanding of the roots.
WTE tries to reflect developments towards modernity and a new era of the global communication.
Activities of WTE include concerts, workshops, research, exhibitions, recording sessions, radio programs, and multimedia artistic projects and exchange programs.
WTE cooperates with Dutch and International institutions and concert halls, such as Tropen Instituut, RASA, Netwerk Niet-Westerse Muziek, Haus Der Kulturen Der Welt, De Balie, Zuiderpershuis, Goethe Institute among others. WTE organized and supported several research projects in Siberia and Central Asia. WTE relies on the work of volunteers, specialists, freelancers and enthusiastic people who do their activities out of love for knowledge and culture. Financial resources of WTE are based on project subsidies and incomes from events.
