The RootsWorld 4th Annual free reed festival
A virtual celebration of the accordion and its kin.

What happens when 100,000 people show up for an accordion festivalNULL Well, if it was outdoors, you'd expect mud, traffic jams and the smell of popcorn and hotdogs. But when it's on the internetNULL No traffic (no need to travel), you'll supply your own food, and you can control the climate. All you need to bring is a good set of ears and an open mind (and of course, an internet
connection).
It's the 4th Annual Free Reed Festival produced by RootsWorld (RootsWorld.com). 'Free reed' refers to all aerophone instruments that use a freely vibrating reed, such as the accordion, concertina, harmonium, reed organ, sheng, khaen, and many other instruments from around the world.
One reason so many people come to the Festival may be that the 'free reed' category spans so many genres and regions of the world, from Cajun accordion to Indian shruti box, from Chinese sheng (mouth organ) to English concertina. The list goes on and on.
The Festival, which will last for the entire month of June, takes place in the virtual world at www.RootsWorld.com and on the airwaves of participating stations, and is expected to once again attract a worldwide audience.
As in previous years, the festival will play host to a wealth of global talent, featuring music and interviews with both well-known artists and many more worthy of note. Many of the works to be made available at the festival have never been available elsewhere before, and include concert recordings and new, unreleased works contributed by the artists for this year's event.
The Festival website will also feature an online Juke Box of countless recordings, CD reviews by writers from around the world, feature articles, listings of Free Reed companion radio programs around the globe, and links
to other websites chock full of information about free reed instruments, players, and music.
