Facts about WOMEX2000 in Berlin


WOMEX2000 Berlin was again the biggest networking salon for World Music worldwide ever, with:
-more than 1.200 delegates from more than 70 countries, including more than 200 journalists;
-more than 240 artists in 34 showcases on 3 stages;
-more than 60 speakers in 34 conference sessions and 4 daycases as part of the conference;
-more than 150 exhibitors in 99 trade fair stands, including umbrella stands of the British Council, Zone Franche, Finnish Centre, Dutch Corner, Profolk, Brazilian Institute, Berlin Network, European Forum and others;
-the official Off-WOMEX programme with 8 after-conference invitations, meetings, launches, receptions, press-conferences and 8 additional showcases on 3 nights;
-the regional WOMEX Focus featuring the Francophone Africa with 4 umbrella stands, 5 conference sessions and 7 showcases;
-the special Focus on 'Native to Canada', with 2 umbrella stands, 1 conference session, 5 showcases and 1 after-conference reception
-the WOMEX Award for an outstanding contribution to World Music. Award-winners 2000: Soweto legends Mahotella Queens (1999: Juan de Marcos and Nick Gold for 'Buena Vista Social Club').
- the launch of the virtualWOMEX, the first internet fair for world music, co-financed by the European Community and the City Council of Berlin.
