MARVELOUS MUSICAL INSTRUMENT EXHIBIT ONLINE

I got some info on a marvelous musical instrument exhibit online, put together by The Virtual Museum of Canada in Montreal.

It is wonderfully designed, beautifully photographed, well annotated and includes some videos of performances on some of the instruments.
My only complaint is that there are not sound samples for each and every instrument represented. (bitch bitch bitch)

You can either browse as if you were in a real museum, or use a site map if you are after a specific instrument or region. You will need
to use the site mapp to find the videos.

It is broken into three sections, and this is the description form in their press material:

-----------------
I-A TALKING WORLD In many societies of oral tradition, musical instruments are used as
accompaniment to mythical songs, epics and sung praises that transmit a people's history and values. This is the case with the kora, the
mvet, the kabaro drum and with instruments played during bwiti ceremonies in Gabon.
II-AN EXALTING WORLD Integrated to ritual music, musical instruments are considered as
sacred objects, as mediators between the worlds of gods and humans.
Discover the tapou drum, the nkul slit drum, the tama talking drum, the bala from Western Africa and the flute, as a means of communicating with divinities. III-A DIVERTED WORLD Musical instruments embody an original and exceptional cultural heritage whose reach is multiple and complex. Discover here instruments born from the diversion of animal, plant, mineral or even
industrial matter.
