company descriptionZIFF [Zanzibar International Film Festival] is a non-governmental, non-partisan and non-profit organization, established in Zanzibar in 1997. ZIFF also aims to encourage the production and distribution of arts (i.e films, music and other artistic works) from Africa and other Dhow Countries, and to facilitate the development of cultural industries in the region.
ZIFF as a organising body of the annual Festival of the Dhow Countries, states its main aim as “to promote and showcase the arts of Africa and the Dhow Countries”. Our objectives are to:
· Showcase the best artistic talent from the African Continent, Gulf States, Iran, India, Pakistan and the islands of the Indian Ocean - the Dhow Countries
· Promote the screening of films made in the region, enabling the general public to enjoy a wide diversity of films
· Celebrate the work of creative artists and to help to nurture a cultural awareness of the region, its issues and its heritage
· Create an environment and develop skills which will enable filmmakers, artists and academics to pursue their mutual concerns
At the annual Festival of the Dhow Countries, ZIFF offers a selection of the best films from the Dhow region, a variety of traditional and contemporary music performances by both local and international musicians, arts events and exhibitions.
The 7th Festival of the Dhow Countries, East Africa’s largest cultural event, will take place in Zanzibar 25th June – 4th July 2004, in magnificent, historical venues along the waterfront of Stone Town.
We are welcome everybody to this large East Africa cultural event!
