Showcases 2019

Celebrating creativity and diversity, from ground-breaking new talents to established maestros, from innovation to tradition, and from acoustic to electronic. The Showcase concerts spotlight more than 60 acts from around the globe every year.

The acts play in front of one of the largest audiences anywhere of dedicated international concert and festival bookers, tour promoters and venues, labels, distributors, journalists and industry professionals – everyone you need to help launch, re-launch, sustain and expand your career.

The programme is created based on an annual call for proposals. Our independent, international jury then chooses the finale programme. Five of them select the showcases, our dedicated Club Summit curator selects the Club Summit showcases together with the WOMEX team.

The Official Showcase Selection programme is created based on an annual call for proposals. Our independent, international jury - the 7 samurai - then chooses the finale programme. Five of them select the showcases. Rounding up a huge variety of artists, the Official Showcase Selection places special emphasis on newcomers to the international touring circut. With its eighth edition held at WOMEX 19, the WOMEX Club Summit has become a drawcard for professionals and musicians seeking club sounds and electronic music from across the world. The 'Northern Connections' stage is a joint effort coordinated by Music Finland in collaboration with Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Estonian and Lithuanian music export organisations. Showcasing top-notch talent from the host country and the region, it’s a new edition in the series of Regional Stages, which started with the Nordic Club stage back in Copenhagen in 2009. With a limited number of slots available as part of WOMEX's Official Showcase, offWOMEX provides another way for artists to present themselves and their music to the WOMEX audience. Under this format, specialised musical evenings are offered, structured within a regional, national or organisational framework. See all artists of the 2019 offWOMEX programme.
The Opening Artists perform at the Opening Concert of WOMEX, focusing on music from a particular country or region and celebrating the start of the Expo. This year's four Finnish top-notch acts that will be performing at the Arctic Fire - Pohjoiset tulet opening concert.
The WOMEX Award ceremony is our festive family event celebrating the recipients of the WOMEX Awards. The ceremony will be closed by a concert of the WOMEX 19 Artist Award recipient.
