Please check the website of your Foreign Ministry to find out about current travel policies when leaving and re-entering your country. Updates are usually done on a regular basis.
Please check the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
This document reflects regulations as of 30 April 2020:https://konzuliszolgalat.kormany.hu/information-on-hungarian-entry-requirements-due-to-covid-19-situation
However, we expect frequent changes during the pandemic. Please check the website regularly for up-to-date information: https://konzuliszolgalat.kormany.hu/en.
As of now, we expect travel restrictions to be broadly or fully withdrawn by October. The Hungarian government officially plans to waive restrictions on public events on 15 August. We have all the reason to expect the withdrawal of travel restrictions as flights started to be launched mid-May. However, we cannot rule out restrictions regarding certain areas or other kinds of difficulties depending on the future state of the pandemic. Also, as of now, remember to bring your own face mask as wearing it is compulsory in many public spaces – shops, restaurants, public transport.
In any case, it is highly recommended to contact the Embassy of Hungary accredited to your country before the intended departure in order to get a confirmation.
See Checklist for answers above. Please note that WOMEX can offer a support letter when you are registered and fully paid.
Regulations are changing week by week, according to pandemic developments. Current regulations may not be indicative of the ones in a few months.
Hotels, AirBnB and all kinds of booking and accomodations services are available. As you might predict, there is still plenty of space available.
As of 4 June 2020, the general answer is yes, except for travelers coming from the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, South Korea and Japan, assuming this is a business trip. The business nature of the visit is to be presumed upon entry. We are happy to provide you with documents, invitation letters to prove your visit is of a business nature and should it still be needed in October, we will make sure to contact the authorities to seek a solution to prepare them that people arriving for WOMEX are on business.
Anyway, these restrictions are expected to change soon. As said, make sure to check travel information on the Foreign Ministry’s website all times you need up-to-date information: https://konzuliszolgalat.kormany.hu/information-on-hungarian-entry-requirements-due-to-covid-19-situation.
No such check-up regulations are in place, only your country of origin and the nature of your visit counts. Again, this is expected to change, and we’ll inform you of any future changes.

So far, no. The Hungarian government announced a plan of lifting restrictions regarding live, public events from 15 August. Summer festivals with a projected audience much larger than WOMEX are set to take place in the second half of August 2020 already. Should the pandemic continue and the plans on lifting the restrictions change, we will inform you.
If you choose to cancel your event registration, you also lose access to virtualWOMEX. You must re-register for virtualWOMEX separately to regain access.
