Ester Rada's Ethiopian roots permeate her unique mix of global urban grooves with Ethio-jazz and Swinging Addis funk, topped with her positive soul voice. Born 1985 in Hebron, a year after her parents arrived in Israel as part of the mass airlift of Ethiopian Jews, she grew up in a tough Tel Aviv district. Her father was a singer and the house was filled with Ethiopian music. At 18 she joined the army and was a featured singer in a music troop but on leaving she fell into acting and became highly successful in TV and theatre. In 2012 she made her Life Happens EP with producers Kuti and Sabbo and hasn't looked back, assembling her excellent band, touring the US, Canada, Europe and Australia and releasing her album entitled Ester Rada. Remember that name.
