Yasmin Levy takes Ladino music back to its roots: Andalusia. Blending Judeo-Spanish culture with Flamenco, she reaches back 1300 years to a time when Jews and Muslims coexisted peacefully in Spain before their expulsion by Isabella the Catholic in 1492.
Echoes of the chazan’s voice, the muezzin’s call to prayer and gypsy rhythms are interwoven over texts in a language dating back to an ancient time, flavoured with a sense of exile.
