A 2020 Latin Grammy winner with the album *Veia Nordestina* and a nominee this year (2024) in the category of ‘Best Portuguese Language Roots Album,’ Mariana Aydar has released six studio albums and two documentaries.
Her passion for the culture of Brazil’s Northeast began in childhood when she was introduced to Luiz Gonzaga through her mother, who was his manager. During her youth, she toured Salvador's Carnival as a backing vocalist for Daniela Mercury and performed at numerous forró venues with her former band "Caruá."
In 2018, with the aim of celebrating Northeastern music in São Paulo's Carnival, she created the "Forrozin" street party, which has featured prominent Brazilian artists like Gilberto Gil, Anastácia, and Criolo. She made her debut as a film director alongside Joaquim Castro and Dudu Nazarian in the documentary *Dominguinhos* and *Dió - O Diamante do Forró*.
Her music has been featured in the soundtracks of Globo TV soap operas *Renascer*, *Volta Por Cima*, and *Travessia*, with the songs "Te Faço Um Cafuné," "Se Pendura," and "Espumas Ao Vento," respectively. The São Paulo-born singer and songwriter is known for blending the new and the traditional, combining contemporary themes and sounds with the roots of forró.
Her songs and performances emphasize women’s empowerment and freedom of choice, while also addressing the need to update the sexist and conservative narratives that are prevalent in forró. She revisits classics and introduces new songs that offer a freer and less painful perspective on love, a theme deeply embedded in the world of forró.
