With great intensity and virtuosity the Venezuela born singer, cellist and cuatro player is performing original compositions, traditional repertoire and well-known Latin American songs in new arrangements.
Yma America is one of the most popular Latin female voices in Europe. Her clear, pure and powerful voice swings like the wind over the sounds of her "cuatro", the typical small four-stringed instrument from Venezuela.
Her musical exploration of the south american subcontinent spannes from modern harmonized boleros and serenades in mainly slower pace with a variety of accompaniment figures on the guitar and with soulful percussion to Argentine Zambas, Peruvian folk songs to Venezuelan salsa. Brazilian pieces such as "Carinhoso" wins in softer, more subdued pace a great depth. But even at Central America, Yma America and her musicians do not stop their musical adventure : it seems like Esquival, the sorcerer of the Mexican popular music conducts the impish and experimental arranged "Me Vuelves Loca" by the singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero ...
