Baile do Mestre Cupijó is a musical project dedicated to preserving and reimagining the legacy of Mestre Cupijó (1936-2012), lawyer, social activist, local politician, cultural champion, multi-instrumentalist and bandleader, one of the most important creators of Amazonian music and the man responsible for popularising the Siriá and Banguê rhythms from the Baixo Tocantins region in Pará, Northern Brazil. The project emerged from the 2019 documentary ''Mestre Cupijó e Seu Ritmo'' and has evolved into a celebratory live performance blending musical research, oral tradition, and contemporary creation. The band's 2024 debut album featured guest appearances by Dona Onete, Felipe Cordeiro, and DJ Waldo Squash and they have been animating major Brazilian festivals and cultural venues, including São Paulo's Virada Cultural, Recife's Rec-Beat, and Belém's Se Rasgum, continuing Mestre Cupijó's life-work, bringing Afro-Amazonian heritage into the present.
