Absolute master of frame drums according to the leading Italian magazine Musica Jazz, Andrea Piccioni has crossed the boundaries of jazz, world and classical music with his style, collaborating with many artists including Bobby McFerrin, Paul McCandless, Les Haulz et Les Bas, Gianluigi Trovesi, Luciano Biondini, Basel Rajoub, Dònal Lunny, Manfred Leuchter, Riccardi Tesi, Lucilla Galeazzi and Wu Man. He has been awarded the title of Master Musician by the prestigious Aga Khan Music Initiative whose various musical and training projects he has been taking part in since 2015 alongside great artists from India, China, Central Asia and the Middle East. He is also an experienced educator in the most important festivals, universities and conservatories, and an ambassador of traditional Italian percussion instruments all over the world.
The instruments of the Italian tradition, such as tamburello, tammorra, bass drum, Jew’s harp and castanets rise to prominence thanks to Andrea’s continuous creations and inventions. In some songs, electronics is skilfully mixed with archaic instruments and voice creating some layered textures.
